About Us
EWP
Since 1973, EWP has been building a strong paddling community in Edmonton through recreation, youth development, and competitive excellence. We have introduced thousands of people to kayaking, welcoming participants from ages 6 to 75 and creating opportunities for paddlers at every stage of their journey. Guided by the belief that kayaking should be accessible to everyone, we have also developed an adaptive kayaking program to help more people experience the joy of being on the water.
Today, EWP is proud to be the largest kayak club in Alberta. Our members are part of a vibrant and respected paddling organization with strong connections across the sport. We are affiliated with key provincial organizations, including the Alberta Canoe Polo Association and the Alberta Whitewater Association, and nationally with Canoe Kayak Canada.
Our facilities help make paddling accessible throughout the year. Our clubhouse near the Valley Zoo provides convenient equipment storage for river programs, while our shared paddling infrastructure at Rundle Park offers an ideal setting for learning, practice, canoe polo, and slalom training. We also have access to deck storage at Kinsmen Sports Centre, allowing members to paddle in the winter and making EWP a true year-round kayak club.
From first-time paddlers to experienced athletes, EWP offers the coaching, equipment, facilities, and programs to help every member grow in confidence and skill. Our club has supported athletes who have gone on to represent Canada in slalom and canoe polo, including competition at the Olympics and world championships.
Whether you want to learn, train, compete, or simply enjoy time on the water, there is a place for you at EWP.

For a little more history about our club please read the following:
The Club is a registered non-profit society formed in 1973 for the purpose of promoting canoe and kayak paddling for recreation and competition. We have a large focus on playing the sport of canoe (kayak) polo, but have interests in all the disciplines of kayaking.
We are a member club of Whitewater Canada which is the amateur sport governing body for canoeing and kayaking in Canada. Nationally, we also hold a membership with the Canadian Canoe Polo Committee. At the provincial level, we are members with the Alberta Canoe Polo Association (ACPA), and the Alberta Whitewater Association (AWA) which are the provincial bodies governing the growth of kayaking in Alberta.
The Club is administered by a volunteer executive elected yearly at our Annual General Meeting. Operating funds are obtained through membership and user fees and casino funding. Equipment purchase usually is through matching grants and/or other volunteer fundraising activities.
