Pembina River Trip – Novice

Events

May 27, 2018

Join us on this is a beginner trip to the Pembina. All participants must have completed a basic introductory kayaking course.

Each day will consist of two trips. The first one is from the Day use area to the end of the campsite. It will involve getting used to the current, eddy turns, ferrying and river basics on this gentle section of river. The second trip will be decided on the day, either an upper section of the Pembina or a trip down the Lobstick river. We will be back at the vehicles between runs so bring a lunch and something hot to drink.

The second day will be a repeat, if coming for two days more advanced skills and technique refinements will be taught.  If you are doing both days you could camp at the park. but you have to reserve your own camping spots.

These trips are lead by experienced trip leaders and are a great introduction to river tripping. All gear will be provided (kayak, paddle, spray deck, pfd, (paddling jacket if you do not have one), helmet. You might want water socks (something for your feet without a thick sole). You will want to wear a shirt under the paddling jacket (something that stays warm when wet – not cotton or nylon).  A bathing suit and if you get cold easily, you might want a short sleeved wet suit and/or neoprene shorts to keep the legs warm.

Youth Lessons

EWP offers classes to kids as young as 6 years old and emphasizes a fun learning environment in order to develop basic kayaking skills. Older youth are transitioned into our youth program (or start there) and are exposed to all aspects of the sport, including whitewater, rolling basics and canoe/kayak polo. There are many opportunities to get folded into the main EWP training group that practices in an adjacent pool at the same time when they aren’t participating and helping with lessons themselves.
