Youth Beginner Intro to Kayaking

11 years old+

A course that introduces youth to the fun, energetic world of kayaking. In the safe friendly environment, the basics of kayaking will be taught. This course gives the foundation to become a river paddler, canoe polo player and/or Summer Games competitor.

Where: Kinsmen Sports Centre
When: Sundays 5:15pm – 6:30PM
What: 4 weeks in duration, exposing the participants to safety and basic skills required for whitewater kayaking and canoe polo.
Dates: October 4, 11, 18, 25 and hopefully a second round offered in November

Cost: $89 (+$20 youth membership)

Kids in Kayak

6 – 10 years old

A progressive and fun approach to introduce young kids to the sport of kayaking.

The emphasis is on having fun while learning some basic kayaking skills.

Where: Kinsmen Sports Centre
When: Sundays 5:15PM to 6:15PM
What: 4 weeks in duration, exposing the participants to some basic skills and games in a kayak.

Dates: Oct 4, 11, 18, 25

Cost: $30 (+ $20 for annual youth membership)

Intermediate Youth/Alberta Summer Games Training

11 years old+

This course teaches advanced strokes for slalom, canoe polo, games and general kayak practice. This course is aimed at those who already know the basic kayak strokes and want to improve their technique. It also is the next course if interested in getting involved in the sport of kayak polo. The next Summer Games will be held in Lethbridge in 2021 (dates TBA). Check this out for more information.

This group will practice together on the following nights:

When: Sundays 6:15PM to 7:45PM

Dates: Oct 4, 11, 18, 25

***then starting in November, the course will likely switch to Tuesdays 18:45PM – 20:15PM pending competition pool repairs at Kinsmen***

Cost: $120

Youth/Student Drop In Sessions

Young paddlers who have some experience and do not want to enrol in a course can still drop in to paddle on Tuesday nights starting in November from 8:15PM-10:00PM

EWP membership is required to paddle and to use the club equipment.

Cost:

  • $10 per session
  • $60 for 8 sessions

Payment for sessions must be made before getting on the water. Usage is tracked through our online system every evening.

Youth/Student Drop In Sessions (Advanced Polo)

Youth paddlers with substantial polo experience can play polo on Thursday nights (8:45-10:30pm) and Tuesday nights (8:15pm – 10:00pm) with the adult advanced polo group. There is extra cost to joining this group compared to the general youth drop-in rate.

EWP membership is required to paddle and to use the club equipment.

Earn a discount when packages of 8 sessions are purchased.

Cost:

  • $15 per hour session
  • $80 for 8 sessions

Canoe Kayak Polo

EWP provides the opportunity to get involved in the exciting team sport known as Canoe (Kayak) Polo at any age and competition level. Members can transition to polo from our various lessons, and the club hosts several opportunities to drop in and play or participate in tournaments throughout the year.
