Youth Beginner Intro to Kayaking

11 years old+

Getting kids 11+ years old into kayaking.

Where: Kinsmen
When: Sundays 6:30PM to 8:00 PM.
What: 4 weeks in duration, exposing the participants to all the basic skills required for whitewater kayaking.

Kids in Kayak

6 – 10 years old

A progressive and fun approach to introduce young kids to the sport of kayaking.

The emphasis is on having fun while learning some basic skills, but above all the sessions focus on having fun.

Each cycle is 4 weeks long and goes from 6:30pm to 7:30pm on Sunday nights in the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre West warmup pool.

The instructors may divide the group if the registration numbers warrant.

Intermediate Youth/Alberta Summer Games Training

11 years old+

This course teaches advanced strokes for slalom, canoe polo, games and general kayak practice. This is aimed at those that already know the basic kayak strokes and want to improve their technique. Summer Games this year will be July 16-22, 2018 in Grande Prairie. There will be an additional pre-camp announced at a later date (extra cost applies). Check this out for more information.

This group will practice together Sunday nights for all 12 weeks of our Winter/Spring pool schedule, starting January 7, 2017.

Also included is our trip to the WEM World Water Park Wave pool! (Date: TBA)

Youth/Student Drop In Sessions

Starting October 26, 2017, young paddlers who do not want to enrol in a course can still drop in to paddle on Thursday nights (9:00-10:00pm).

EWP membership is required to paddle and to use the club equipment.

Cost:

  • $10 per 2 hour session
  • $60 for 8 sessions

Payment for sessions must be made before getting on the water. Usage is tracked through our online system every evening.


Youth/Student Drop In Sessions (Advanced Polo)

Also starting October 26, 2017, youth paddlers with substantial polo experience can play polo on Thursday nights (9:30-11:00pm) and Sunday nights (7:00pm-9:00pm) with the adult advanced polo group. There is extra cost to joining this group compared to the general youth drop-in rate.

EWP membership is required to paddle and to use the club equipment.

Earn a discount when packages of 8 sessions are purchased. Sessions are valid for the 2017/2018 winter sessions only.

Cost:

  • $15 per 2 hour session
  • $80 for 8 sessions

Payment for sessions must be made before getting on the water. Usage is tracked through our online system every evening.

Adult Lessons

Learn the basics of whitewater kayaking in a safe and warm environment from experienced EWP members and instructors. Once ready, there are also many opportunities to get folded into the main EWP training group that practices in an adjacent pool, try canoe/kayak polo, or continue on to specialty classes in bracing and rolling.
