Islet Lake Trip – 50th Anniversary Event #1
Events
May 13, 2023
Trip number one of five will take us to ISLET LAKE. Islet Lake is small with a few islands, and small inlets. At the east end are a few cottages, but for the most part the shoreline is wild. It is a very easy trip on flatwater on which we will see a variety of wildlife including beavers, pelicans, hawks, ospreys, cormorants, and a variety of ducks and other marsh birds. You might want a camera with zoom lens and/or binoculars in your boat.
This is a trip we usually do in sea kayaks but any longer whitewater kayak or even
an open canoe will suffice. Short freestyle type whitewater boats are not recommended as they are slow and do not track well.
The format of the trip would be to launch from the staging area and tour around the lake for 2 – 3 hours. You will want to carry water and a few snack bars. Upon returning to our starting point we will fire up a barbeque to roast hot dogs. We will also have coke and chips for all. We hope it will be sunny but it is always wise to have a warm sweater and windbreaker along; and change of clothes at the end if you get wet.
