Brierlies River Trip

Events

September 12, 2020

We are planning on hosting one day trip to the Brierlies on Saturday, September 12, 2020.

The plan will be to meet outside the water treatment plant in Rocky Mountain House for 11am (https://goo.gl/maps/Lo9KYtygtfdY3PVB8). We would then shuttle up to the blue bridge. We can choose on the way whether we paddle down to the National Historic Site (~5km trip) or to the water treatment plant (~8km).

We can spend a bit of time playing around the Brierlies hole. Suitable for anyone who has done a basic intro course with EWP. There will be some class 2 water but the class 3 rapids at the Brierlies are completely avoidable.

We suggest that people do not carpool down to RMH to reduce the time spent within 2m distance of each other, and everyone should bring masks for the shuttle.

Fees

  • An additional $10/day fee is required should you wish to rent a boat.

Physical distancing on a club trip

  • Youth paddlers will need a parent or guardian to attend in order to provide shuttle service for their child.
  • Bring a face mask(s) and plenty of hand sanitizer/soap.
  • Trip leaders will perform river rescues if required. To reduce the risk of needing rescue, you should paddle well within your ability. Our trip leaders will be on hand to help guide you in judging whether a  rapid is within your capabilities. Portaging rapids on this river is a piece of cake!

Please contact us if you are interested in attending!

Adult Lessons

Learn the basics of whitewater kayaking in a safe and warm environment from experienced EWP members and instructors. Once ready, there are also many opportunities to get folded into the main EWP training group that practices in an adjacent pool, try canoe/kayak polo, or continue on to specialty classes in bracing and rolling.
