About Edmonton Whitewater Paddlers

EWP is a kayak club.

With your registration you become a member of the Edmonton Whitewater Paddlers club. Our club is affiliated with our provincial sporting bodies: the Alberta Canoe Polo Association and the Alberta Whitewater Association. Your EWP membership also joins you to these associations.

We have a clubhouse is located near the Valley Zoo that is shared with some other paddling clubs in the City of Edmonton. This clubhouse gives us a place to store some club equipment for use on the river. We also rent pool time at Kinsmen Sports Centre during the winter months. We offer lessons, drop-in sessions, and host a couple of kayak polo competitions throughout the year at Kinsmen. During the summer months, we run most of our programming out of the Rundle Park Paddling Centre located at Rundle park. For specific instructions on where these facilities are located please see “locations” tab on the drop down menu on our website.

For a little more history about our club please read the following:

The Club is a registered non-profit society formed in 1973 for the purpose of promoting canoe and kayak paddling for recreation and competition. We have a large focus on playing the sport of canoe (kayak) polo, but have interests in all the disciplines of kayaking.

We are a member club of Whitewater Canada which is the amateur sport governing body for canoeing and kayaking in Canada. Nationally, we also hold a membership with the Canadian Canoe Polo Committee. At the provincial level, we are members with the Alberta Canoe Polo Association (ACPA), and the Alberta Whitewater Association (AWA) which are the provincial bodies governing the growth of kayaking in Alberta.

The Club is administered by a volunteer executive elected yearly at our Annual General Meeting. Operating funds are obtained through membership and user fees and casino funding. Equipment purchase usually is through matching grants and/or other volunteer fundraising activities.
