WINTER POOL SESSIONS

From November to May, EWP moves indoors using the pool at the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre. We offer open pool paddling sessions to our members so they can keep up their paddling and rolling skills.

See the Recreation Forum for current schedule and pricing details.

CANOE (KAYAK) POLO

Canoe Polo Canoe Polo is an exciting team sport played in specially designed kayaks involving 2 teams of 5 players attempting to shoot a standard water polo ball into the opponent's net which is hanging 2 meters above the water surface.

The standard pitch dimensions are usually 35 meters long by 23 meters wide. Each player is required to wear protective equipment consisting of an extra thick PFD and a helmet featuring a full face mask to protect their face against accidental paddle strikes.

Edmonton Whitewater Paddlers was the first Canadian club to play this relatively new sport, and has been supplying the bulk of the National Team members since the first World Championships in 1994, and has since hosted many international competitions including the 2008 World Championships.

EWP offers its members the opportunity to get involved in this exciting sport at any level from junior and novice, recreational or competitive. The club hosts multiple tournaments during the year and all members are invited to participate in these very social events.

Our members can use canoe polo boats from our extensive stock of boats for a modest "repair fee" if they do not have their own polo boat.

Please check out the Canoe Polo forum for upcoming clinics, drop-in games and tournaments

TOURING

Recently EWP has become more involved in touring. What is meant by this is a range of day trips in sea kayaks, though due our inland location not on the sea.

Day trips are made on nearby lakes such as Wabamum and Islet lake, as well as trips on the North Saskatchewan from Devon to Edmonton. These are leisurely paddles to enjoy nature and wildlife, as places such as Islet lake are excellent for bird-watching.

EWP has a range of sea kayaks, both singles and doubles, as well as several smaller models for children and women. Sea kayak lessons are also planned for both winter and summer, being a great time to sharpen the skills for a trip on the coast.

Be sure to check the recreation forum and/or the calendar for summer and fall ventures around Edmonton.

RIVER TRIPS

During the summer, there are several river trips that the club goes on. Some are part of rendez-vous put on by the local clubs, and others are geared towards beginners or kids.

There is a trip for everyone !

The majority of trips go out to the Brierlies rapid out by Rocky Mountain house, since it is the closest river and provides a great variety of features for the beginner to the advanced paddler. Some of rivers that have been paddled in the past are the Red Deer, Sulphur, Whirlpool, Kananaskis, Old Man, Castle, Brazeau and the lower Maligne to name a couple. Not all are done in one year through organised club trips, but are certainly great rivers to paddle. The Pembina river just west of Edmonton is used as the introduction to moving water for people coming out of the winter pool sessions. It allows for people to get the feel for eddy lines and moving water. Hope to see you out on river next summer !

Be sure to check the calendar for your favourites !

BOAT RENTAL

The Club owns many different boat designs and updates ithe fleet on a regulatr basis so our members can enjoy using all types of designs when river running or going out play boating.

Check out the rental forum for currently available boats, along with specifications and pricing.
